Custom programming: when the almost solution\ u0161is not working

Custom programming makes sense the moment a finished tool starts limiting you instead of helping you — when you're doing workarounds to get a WordPress plugin or a finished CRM to do something they weren't built to do. Then you do not upgrade someone else's solution, but write software that follows your process, and not vice versa.

What does custom programming actually mean

Ready-made solutions — WordPress, Shopify, standard CRM packages — work quickly and cheaply while your job resembles the job for which they were made. The problem arises when you have a special workflow: ordering with two currencies, a special reservation system, integration with a warehouse that no plugin covers. This is where you write the code from scratch, exactly for your case, without excess functions that you do not need and without other people's restrictions.

When it makes sense to order bespoke software

It makes no sense to create a custom solution for a standard company presentation or a simple web shop — a ready-made platform does the job faster and cheaper. Custom programming pays off when:

  • the process in the company does not resemble any finished tool on the market,
  • you need to connect multiple systems that do not talk to each other (warehouse, invoicing, site, delivery),
  • you are growing and the finished solution is already slowing down the work instead of making it easier,
  • data and job logic are sensitive enough that someone else's plugin is not an option.

If you are not sure which group you belong to, first check if the problem is solved by upgrading the existing site — see what it looks like development of web and mobile applications with us, so assess whether you need a standard solution or something written from scratch.

What the price depends on

The exact price can not be given by anyone without discussing the scope — the range depends on the number of functions, integrations with other systems and how long the software should live without a major upgrade. A smaller tool that solves one specific problem costs much less than a system that connects the warehouse, site and accounting. What affects the price the most: the number of screens and user roles, the number of integrations, and whether it builds from scratch or upgrades existing code. We wrote in more detail about this in the text on custom software development and when you really need it.

What the process looks like with us

The first conversation is always about the problem, not the technology — what's slowing you down right now and what you're trying to avoid. After that, there's a short list of features that are really needed, without adding everything you might need one day. We build in stages, with a working version that you test early instead of waiting months for the finished product. The entire overview of the service, with examples of what we did, is on the page custom solution development.

How to check if you need

Ask yourself one question: do you spend more time bypassing the limitations of the finished tool than the job itself? If the answer is yes, custom programming is not a luxury but a time-saver that comes back. If you are unsure, please describe the current process — it quickly becomes clear in the conversation whether you need custom software or just a better tuned existing solution.

What you lose if you stay on a ready-made solution for too long

Let us know with a description of the issue and we'll work together to assess if you need a custom solution or something simpler.
